The Union Hotel Motel Barcaldine, has held a hotel license at the same location for over 130 years. Its original number was United Licenced Victualler Assocation (ULVA) NO 48 in Queensland. It is one of only 2 hotels in Barcaldine which have never burnt down. The original building was moved by bullock dray from PineHill then to Alice Siding, and then to its present location where it has undergone many extensive renovations.

Drink from History

The Kuder family owned the hotel for many years and rebuilt the bar after a flood in 1939. Then in 1958, Harry Hayes built the accommodation block and fitted the first cold room in Barcaldine into the Untion Hotel bar. This cold room is still in the bar today chilling the coldest beer in town.

Mr A.E.Peel had the license until 1887. Then Joe and Margaret Edge became licensees. During their tenure, Union tickets were issued to Shearers from the hotel during the famous Shearers Strike of 1891, hence the name ‘Union’ Hotel.
